Jesa has unique know-how in bearing and technical polymer technologies

Innovation

Our expertise in the service of innovation

The JESA research centre is at the cutting edge of innovation, with engineers constantly seeking innovative solutions to meet today’s technological challenges.

Whether it’s optimizing the lifespan of a bearing, its lubrication, or its load capacity, JESA is always exploring new processes, technologies, and materials. This is exemplified, for instance, by the TORLON® PAI injection process, which enables the overmolding of bearings with a highly efficient thermoplastic.

Geometries

A design perfectly adapted to the application

Frequently, the key to superior bearing performance lies in the intricacies of its design. JESA’s experts focus on the bearing’s internal geometric parameters to ensure exceptional load capacity, high speed, optimized friction, or maximum noise reduction.

There are no restrictions or limitations on the external dimensions of the product. All dimensional variations are possible to meet specific customer requirements.

Materials

The choice of steel or engineering polymer: a crucial design stage

JESA’s engineers leverage proven expertise along with high-performance calculation and testing resources to select the most suitable materials. Despite the multitude of materials available, JESA focuses on a well-known and controlled range of products, thereby containing costs.

However, if a special material is necessary, JESA has the facilities to conduct tests and validate the final material. Once the product is ready for mass production, JESA collaborates with trusted suppliers of raw materials to ensure consistent product performance.

Rolling elements

The heart of the bearing: a crucial choice that will determine properties

The term ‘ball bearings’ is often misused to describe bearings whose rolling elements are not balls. In reality, there are other types of rolling elements, such as cylindrical rollers, tapered rollers, and needles.

The selection of the rolling element should be made considering the advantages and disadvantages of each type and the requirements of the application. The materials and finish of these components are also significant factors influencing the intrinsic properties of the bearing.

Cages

All components contribute to optimal bearing performance

The ball bearing cage is an inconspicuous yet crucial component in ensuring a top-quality product. Depending on factors such as speed, acceleration, friction, and temperature, JESA will recommend a cage to suit your specific needs. In certain situations, such as high acceleration, a bearing without a cage may even be recommended as a solution.

Lubrication

A well-oiled machine is essential for a long service life

The primary role of the lubricant is to protect the bearings against wear by preventing direct metal contact between the moving parts, such as rings, cages, and rolling elements.

The choice of lubricant depends mainly on the temperatures and speeds at which the bearing will be used, as well as environmental conditions such as humidity, the presence of contaminants, and chemicals. Our experts can recommend different types of lubrication, such as greases, oils, or surface treatments for dry lubrication. In some cases, it is even possible to use bearings without lubrication, particularly if they are integrated into an oil circulation system such as a housing or gearbox.

Sealing

Long-term protection

Covers and seals are designed to safeguard the bearing by preventing dirt and water from entering, while retaining the lubricant inside.

These covers are affixed to the outer ring of the bearing and may or may not come into contact with the inner ring. The choice of the type of protection depends on the level of safeguarding needed for the bearing, and the team of experts at JESA will be able to offer precise advice on the most suitable choice. Moreover, covers and seals can be customized to meet customer requirements, including color and markings.

Simulations and tests

Anticipation is also our responsibility

Although the most realistic test remains the one conducted on the customer’s premises, JESA engineers have various testing and simulation tools at their disposal to evaluate the performance of a product equipped with bearings right from the design phase. Among these tools, finite element calculation software and plastic injection simulation software complement the numerous test benches that allow the performance of different materials, technologies, or concepts to be compared.

At JESA, new technologies and materials are studied and validated within internal projects to ensure their full utilization in customer projects. Prototypes are systematically produced and subjected to validation tests at both JESA and the customer before series production.

Bearing units

JESA is a creator of innovative solutions

Mounting the ball bearing and integrating it into its operating environment are critical stages that directly impact the product’s performance and lifespan. To simplify and enhance these operations for its customers, JESA offers units that, in addition to bearings, can include axes, a preload system, a transmission, a housing, or even an electric drive.

With its expertise in plastic injection molding, JESA provides a multitude of possibilities such as over-molding and under-molding of bearings, guide rollers with synthetic tires, levers, or polymer connecting rods incorporating bearings and metal inserts.

These hybrid products improve product performance and functionality, reduce weight, and optimize costs. By integrating these functions, JESA enables its customers to benefit from innovative, tailor-made solutions to meet the specific needs of their application.

Packaging and labelling

For impeccable logistics

Packaging is a crucial factor in maintaining the quality of bearings during transport and storage. It is specially designed to shield bearings from corrosion, dust, and other contaminants.

At JESA, packaging and labeling are integral components of product design and are chosen based on the specific requirements of each customer. In addition to safeguarding the bearings, the packaging and labeling are also crafted to streamline product traceability and handling during integration. This optimizes stock management and facilitates logistics for customers.
